Exactly one year after the launch of the first OnePlus Nord smartphone focused on the budget, the Chinese giant has introduced its successor in India. It’s called OnePlus Nord 2 5G and bears the company’s trademark ‘flagship killer’. This 5G-enabled smartphone features a MediaTek Dimensity chipset, a 50MP triple camera, 65W Warp charging and more.
OnePlus Nord 2 5G: Key specifications and features
Starting with the design, the OnePlus Nord 2 looks quite similar to the OnePlus 9R. It features a flat screen with a selfie camera with holes on the front and a rectangular camera module on the back. The device is coming three color variants. Two of them, Blue Haze and Gray Sierra, have a glossy back panel, while the Green Woods color variant (exclusive to India) has a leather back panel.
Before we get to the other hardware specifics, let’s talk about what’s under the hood. OnePlus Nord 2 is powered by MediaTek Dimension 1200-AI chipset. Now a lot of people are wondering about the nickname AI (artificial intelligence) in the name of the chipset. Well, the company justifies this by adding countless AI features – whether it’s a screen, camera or other areas.
OnePlus Nord 2 supports the same display as the recently launched OnePlus Nord CE. Contains a 6.43-inch Full-HD + AMOLED fluid screen with a refresh rate of 90Hz. The board boasts a resolution of 2400 x 1080p, a 20: 9 aspect ratio and support for the sRGB color gamut. The main theme here is the capabilities of the AI device, and the display department sees the addition of two prominent features.
The screen is supported here AI color enhancement in applications such as YouTube, MX Player, and VLC to provide enhanced color science. And there’s AI Resolution Boost which upgrades all content from apps like YouTube, Instagram and Snapchat to HD resolution.
In the camera department, the OnePlus Nord 2 5G includes a 50MP Sony IMX766 sensor with OIS support, 8MP ultra-wide camera with 120-degree FOV and 2MP mono camera. The camera supports up to 4K @ 30fps video recording, Nightscape Ultra mode and various AI features including AI enhancement of photos and videos, Dual View Video and more.
There is also single 32MP Sony IMX615 sensor front as opposed to a dual selfie camera with holes in the front. It supports the Group Shots 2.0 feature that can detect up to 5 people in a frame. The AI engine can then improve skin details and eye counters in selfies.
Going back to the internal parts, the built-in chipset is paired with up to 12GB of LPDDR4X RAM and up to 256GB of UFS 3.1 storage. You will also find and 4,500mAh battery package larger than the 4115mAh battery of the original Nord, with support for fast charging of 65 W. OnePlus Nord 2 5G runs OxygenOS 11.3 (not ColorOS) based on Android 11.
As for connectivity, let’s remove the most common questions first. How many 5G bands OnePlus Nord 2 supports a total of 7 5G bands in India. These include the n41, n78, n40, n79 in the NSA configuration and the n1, n3 and n28a bands, along with the NSA, in the SA configuration. You also have Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2 (with support for aptX, aptX HD, AAC and LDAC), NFC, USB-C port and other sensors on board.
The device also includes an optical fingerprint sensor under the screen, dual-SIM 5G, dual-stereo speakers and more.
Price and availability
Coming to the price, OnePlus Nord 2 has a price of Rs. 27,999 th most common for the basic variant of 6 GB + 128 GB in India. Top versions of 8 GB + 128 GB and 12 GB + 256 GB will require you to set aside Rs. 29,999 and Rs. 34,999 th most common
