ASUS launches Chromebook CX9 and CX5 with Intel Tiger Lake processors

ASUS has released a pair of new Chromebooks backed by Intel Tiger Lake processors. The new laptops are the ASUS Chromebook CX9 and the Chromebook Flip CX5 and offer plenty of power for business users.

First of all, the Chromebook CX9 is a traditional clamshell laptop. It can be configured with up to Intel Core i7-1165G7, which also includes Intel Iris Xe Graphics. This makes it a fairly powerful laptop, especially compared to most other Chromebooks. You can also get it with up to 512 GB SSD and 16 GB RAM, so this is definitely a premium product.

The screen is a 14-inch panel and you can get it in up to 4K resolution and the aspect ratio is 16: 9. The Full HD panel covers 100% of the sRGB, while the 4K variant reaches 95%. On the other hand, the 4K panel reaches 550 nits of brightness, instead of 400 nits in the Full HD model. There is also optional touch support, along with support for active USI pens.

In terms of design, the ASUS Chromebook CX9 uses CNC machined aluminum and is only 16 mm thick and weighs 2.31 pounds. Meets the MIL-STD-810H rating for durability, with tests for falls, shock, panel pressure and more. ASUS also offers a 14-hour battery life on the Chromebook CX9.

ASUS Chromebook Flip CX5

As for the ASUS Chromebook Flip CX5, it is mainly a convertible version of the CX9. It comes with an Intel Core i7-1160G7, which is slightly less powerful than what is offered in the clamshell version. Otherwise, it has up to 16 GB of RAM and 512 GB of SSD storage. The screen is Full HD with no option for 4K, but is now convertible, so touch support is already included and you can use it as a tablet.

The Chromebook Flip CX5 is also made of aluminum, but is heavier at 3.1 pounds. But this is the case with convertibles. Both the Chromebook CX9 and Flip CX5 come with two Thunderbolt 4 ports, plus USB Type-A (two ports on the CX9), a microSD card reader and a combo audio port.

The ASUS Chromebook CX9 starts at $ 749.99 with Intel Core i3-1115G4, 128 GB SSD and 8 GB RAM. A model with Core i7-1165G7, 512 GB SSD storage, 16 GB RAM and touch support is also available in the ASUS online store for $ 1,149.99. The ASUS Chromebook Flip CX5 does not appear to be available yet. ASUS says it will cost $ 1,049, but it is not clear in which configuration it applies.
